Quilt Racks on the Wall: An ergonomic and effective way to protect your quilt

Quilt racks are increasing popular these days. A quilt is a fragile but precious type of bedding and there is no better way to protect them. However, a very valid criticism is that they take up too much room. In a crowded space like a heavily cluttered living room there might simply not be enough room for a rack. Fortunately there is a solution to this. There are now many designs of quilt racks that actually hang to the wall.

Hanging on the wall is beneficial for several reasons. First of, as previously mentioned it will take up significantly less room. These days with consumer products like iPods and flat screen televisions it seems clutter just keeps on increasing. Many people like to display their quilts in their living room or bed room and there often isn’t enough room for them. A wall rack really works well in this regard. But also there is a second reason that people often miss. Quilts are beautiful pieces of art. Often there is something symbolic in them. By hanging them on the wall, they are put in display and are easily visisble. Instead of being tucked away in the corner, they are being displayed in their full glory. These two reasons are why wall quilt racks are some of the most popular options.

One thing is very important though: you need to be careful about choosing the material your quilt rack is made of. Consider the other types of furniture in your room. If most of it is wooden, a wooden quilt rack might be good (ideally oak). Iron is also another popular material. Remember that your quilt rack will be very visible on the wall. Choose a material that will blend in with the rest of the room rather than sticking out like a sore thumb.

Oak Quilt Rack

An oak quilt rack can be an excellent addition to your home. It is not only aesthetically pleasing but also serves a functional purpose very well. Here are some things to think about before buying one.

Price shopping online for a good price will save you a lot of money. Be sure to check out several internet retailers to see their prices and selection.

Quilts are much more than just bedding to many people. They often have symbolic value behind them if they were made by you or a friend. Quilts frequently have intriquite designs. Therefore, this is why people want to protect it from getting dirty or ripped. A quilt rack is probably the best way to do it. Having a proper place for it will prevent it from getting wear and tear. You can still enjoy its presence as you will not have to store it in a closet.

Oak is an excellent materiafl for a rack for several reasons. It is a very solid material. There are some cheaper ones being sold that are made out of thin plastic. Although these are more affordable they aren’t very durable. To those with heavy quilts and/or lots of mischevous kids this might not be the best option. Oak on the otherhand is an excellent hardwood renowned for its durability. It is safer than some other materials. Iron is another popular option but some of the racks have sharp edges and might not be suited if you have small kids. And importantly for many, the material matches with many living rooms. Oak has a very nice organic look to it. A quilt rack made of this material will fit in perfectly if your room already has a lot of wooden furniture in it.

Hanging quilt racks to the rescue

Have you just purchased, made or received a quilt? You will be aware of the intricate designs and want to protect it. This is not your run-of-the-mill blanket. Often there are memories and people hope to keep their quilts for many years.

Probably the most popular method to protect it is a quilt rack. But these can take up a lot of room. Most people’s houses are extremely crowded and having another large piece of furniture taking up a lot of room is really not feasible. Ergonimics is key. Fortunately there exists hanging quilt racks.

One thing to definitely consider is shopping online. It is a lot easier to price shop on the internet because checking prices only takes a few seconds. You don’t have to call or make a visit to a store. Don’t be impulsive and go with the first quilt rack you find.

Hanging quilt racks range from the very basic to high end models. It can simply be a plastic rack that hangs from a door or wall. Or it could be an elaborate stainless steel artifact. What you should buy really depends on what you can afford and the look of the room you plan on placing it in. Do your best to have the material and style blend in with the existing furniture and fabrics.

Also consider where you are going to hang it. Hanging on the door might be the easiest because it will not require any special installation. You will probably just need to place it on the door properly. But this might not be the best solution for heavy quilts because often hanging quilt racks that hang on doors are not very stable. So if someone slams the door the whole contraption will fall to the floor.

A rack that is attached to the wall will be far more stable. However, it will probably need to be screwed in. Be sure to have the necessary equipment to properly install it. When you screw it into the wall be sure to do it carefully so you do not have to reinstall it. The exposed holes will look unsightly.

A hanging quilt rack is great because it doesn’t take up much room and you will be able to prevent your quilt from getting damaged or dirty. Definitely shop online so you get a good price.

Types of Quilt Racks

Quilts are not your typical bedding. They are usually elaborate and are of higher quality than a typical blanket. Many have been hand-made, usually by a friend or family member and thus have sentimental value attached to them. Therefore many people have found that they do not want it to be left on the floor or get dirty. A quilt rack is a wise investment to protect one’s quilt. Some might find it odd to have a special piece of furniture just for a blanket but owners of quilts will understand.

There are several options when choosing to buy a quilt rack. If you are short on space you can buy one that hangs on the wall. Sometimes this does not fit the “feel” of the room thoughbut don’t worry because there are plenty of ones that stand on the ground to choose from. Quilt racks are made from anything from oak to iron. Once again, have the materials match the other furniture in the room.  Be sure to have a good idea of what type of quilt rack you want to match the layout and feel of your room before going to the store.
